Insanity Max30 1 Week Review, Week 2 Meal Plan

Week 1 of Insanity Max30 is in the books! 
It was not easy, let me tell you.  
With the last minute shopping and planning I missed 2 workouts 
but it sort of turned out to go in my favor.  

I received my Max30 the Week before Christmas and we started that Wednesday.  
By Christmas week I was able to catch up those missed workouts and bring us
back to a Monday through Friday Schedule to we can take the weekends off! 

Our food choices weren't too shabby if I say so myself!!  
We started a fitness program in the middle of the Holidays 
and still enjoyed our Christmas splurges.

For Christmas Eve Dinner we kept it simple so we wouldn't have too 
many leftovers and it worked!! 

We had Homemade Pozole, Tamales and this year we went with 
Cheesecake for Dessert instead of Pies.  

We had a nice evening with family 
and I was right back on track the very next day.  
No gorging or binging, something I was notorious for doing in the past.

Best Christmas EVER!!

Why is it the best? 
Because this is by far my healthiest Christmas thus far.  
What I mean by that is, I ate according to my goals.  
I included my workouts on BOTH Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 
and didn't use the "holidays" as an excuse to go all crazy.

And the BEST part my Hubby joined me too!! 

I've come along way from the person I used to be.  
I dreaded the Holidays for one reason and one reason only,
 the weight gain that came with it. 

 It never seemed to fail that right around Halloween I would slowly let things go, 
my workouts, my healthy food choices and before I knew it...BOOM!
 I would put on another 10-15lbs that would take me another 2-3 months to knock out. 

It was a never ending cycle, and some years I just gave up, 
never even attempted to do anything about it.  
It just didn't seem WORTH IT! 

In 2012 right after my son's 1st birthday I looked into his little eyes, 
and realized I could not continue like this for him,
for my daughter, my husband and even myself! 

Right then and there knew I would NEVER let myself FEEL like that again.  

My journey opened up old wounds, and even cut some new ones.  

But I'm cut from a different cloth, I know NOW 
that I'm much more STRONGER 
and my WILL is much more POWERFUL than I ever gave myself credit for.

Having a group of people pushing through the hard times, the holidays, the craziness of life and finding accountability, support and making friends is what is leading us to success. 

 Some stats are already in and they are freaking MIND BLOWING!!! 

I'm moving forward with week 2 on Monday and have already set up my meal plan for the week.  
I know it's another Holiday week but I have already established my goals for 2015
 and will NOT wait until the new year or the new week to start on them.  

That includes starting in the Kitchen! 
The workouts themselves are great, they're challenging and are meant to push you
But the real challenge is what you do for the remaining 23.5 hours of your day. 
You can NOT out exercise a bad diet.

And the good thing about the Deluxe Max 30 kit  is it follows the same

for ME, I get an extra serving of fruit, veggies and carbs!! 

More food for more fuel, I'll take it!!! 
This made my meal planning for this coming week a cinche!

It's Here!! Insanity Max:30

It's here!! It's HERE!!! Insanity Max30 is finally here!
I've been watching some of our top coaches participate in the test group and
I am blown away at the crazy results they are getting. 

I started my journey with Insanity 2 years ago and I have been a Shaun T fan ever since.

Is Max 30 for Beginners?
It is for anyone that is a fitness beginner who wants to jump start their journey with an insane workout (it does have a modifier) a T25 graduate ready for a harder challenge, or an Insanity grad looking to take it to the next level!  It's not about your physical fitness. It's about your mental game! 

These are Lori Stuart's Results and she ONLY followed the modifier.  
She is currently in month 2 as an official Coach Tester.

Those are 30 Day results following only the modifier and meal plan guys and girls!

 This workout is for you if you are mentally strong and ready to give it your all.

What does it mean to Max Out? 
To Max Out means to stop or fail for the first time in the workout. 
It's really truly not about getting through all 30 minutes. It's about going as hard as you can for as long as you can, until you MAX OUT. Write down the time take a break, and then you want to jump back into the workout. If you stay committed and push to your max you will add more time each week with the workouts! 

What are the workouts like?
The workouts in month 1 are a combination of cardio and tabata style strength workouts! You no longer have a fit test like Insanity but every single workout is your fit test because your goal is to beat your time from the day before! 

What is a tabata workout? 
It is 20 seconds on and 10 seconds off with the workout structure.

Whats different about this program compared to others?
You might feel like you are maxing out in one move but then you switch and it gives
 you a little break so you can max out in another way! 
 The intervals are also a little different, 3 moves, 30 seconds each 3 rounds. 
You do a little more a little longer and a little harder.
The focus is really on that recovery time. 
 Your recovery time is to enhance other parts of the workout. 
 Your focus is to really be self motivated beyond this 60 days! 

Is there a modifier?
HECK YEAH!!  Yes- there is a modifier track option so that you can see the modifier all the time during the workout which makes it easier to follow.

What comes with the kit ?

The program is 60 days long and is broken down into month 1 and month 2. 
 The workouts are all 30 minutes each with a 10 minute ab workout.  
The idea of this program is not to make it through the entire 30 minutes, but to "MAX OUT" and go as hard as you can until you have to take a break! You DO want to max out, it's not a bad thing.  When you Max Out you track your daily progress by your Max Out times and aim to increase that time with each workout. 

The Meal Plan is Flexible eating and portion control.
Portion control is amazing. It's the most important thing you can do to get even better results. If you manage your portions you can eat again sooner!

Challenger Update: Fit Friends

Let me share a little update on these two girls right here.  
My friend Liza and I met on my Like page and we connected instantly...We have a serious obsession for the same TV shows, and as she recently joked about taking more selfies...I've realized we've both gotten a little more fond of taking them these  

Liza's a full time working wife & mom and just wanted to start something that wasn't complicated and wouldn't take too much time.  Enter Shakeology and PiYo, now to be honest my friend here admits to not working out but adding walking to routine a few times a week.  She has changed her eating habits but doesn't deprive herself of treats and cheat meals.  She is consistent with her daily Shakeology and has lost 15lbs to date.. BEFORE THE HOLIDAYS!!

 In a time when people are gaining weight because of the Holiday Hustle and Bustle this chick is taking control and making those lifestyle changes now and not waiting for the New Year! I could not be more proud of her.  She had a minor car accident that set her back a bit too and look at her, she just kept on pushing through.  I know she has it in her to keep this lifestyle going.  And want to know how I know this?  She took a leap of faith and signed as coach on our team!!

Congrats Liza!!! I can't wait to see what the new year brings us.   You're already inspiring those around you and that's what this is all about...Inspiring others with your Story.  Making friends like you along the way makes this journey even more exiting and fulfilling!!  

Now let me share with you my friend Cammie.  She message me about a year ago asking me about Shakeology and what I've been doing to lost weight and get in shape...(sound a little familiar? we chatted about her busy schedule as a Wife, Mom and having to return to work full time all while also working on her Doctorate...Yeah, Doctorate.   This chick was crazy busy!  It didn't matter how late it was she was making time for herself.

I've known Cammie since Kindergarten but we didn't connect again until Facebook a couple years ago. And I'm so grateful we did Besides our friendship I've grown to really admire her as the strong woman that she is.  Cammie took a leap of faith with me and joined one of my challenge groups with P90X3 and her Chocolate Shakeology. She even went on to give the 21 DayFix a go too...and here we are now...a year later and she looks absolutely amazing!

I'm so proud of all her hard work.   She did so much more than push play and work her butt off even on the hardest of days....She also helped inspire me along the way.

Congrats on 1 year of healthy living Dr. Nguyen!!!

It is never too late to get started on your own journey.  
This is a lifestyle change, it will take time and you will even stumble and fall at times.  That's all part of the process, it's how you learn to dust yourself off and pick right back up where you left off.

Kicking off December with a BANG!

So how do you kick off a new month after a long Thanksgiving weekend?  
With a little CrossFit that's how!! 
My friend Jazmine invited to Gutwrench CrossFit in Long Beach and I had a total blast!! 
 I've been dying to get into a hard core setting like that but have always been waaay too intimidated to go by myself. Ya know the look you get as a #Newbie but with having a friend there well...instant confidence boost right there.

If you're new to the show here, then you should know  I'm not very fond of gyms, bootcamps or anything really that requires me to have to leave the 

So programs like Insanity, TurboJam and Piyo have been my go to workouts for the last couple of years. If you've been following me then you know that I have tried just about every program from Hip Hops Abs, Asylum, Combat, Pump...(you get the picture) I really do take my workouts seriously. I push myself, I train hard and never miss more than 1 or 2 days. I eat right (as best I and fuel my body daily with Shakeology.  

So how did I do? Well I SMASHED that workout. I hung in there with the coaches and the girls that do this regularly and the BEST part and huge surprise and accomplishment for myself was taking a chance to climb those ropes....I nailed it! To the a #BOSS and got to ring that
 I'm pretty sure I was blushing because I honestly didn't expect to make it to the top but I DID!!

In the last 2 years I've never stepped foot in a gym and that day I got to see first hand what I am REALLY capable of. Spartan Race in my future maybe? hmm.....who knows, all I know is that being afraid to try something for fear of failure or looking like a fool is the hardest mind f#$% you can ever put yourself through. Don't be afraid to try something new.....who knows, it may just be what makes you really fly.

Week 1 of December is officially in the books! Weigh ins and pictures have begun for our Coach only Challenge Group and my Kick-Start Your Health Challenge Group.  Progress updates are trickling in and I can't wait to share with you all our 1 week results so stay tuned. 

With the new month of course comes the ever so necessary goal setting! How are you supposed to know what your reaching for if you're not making any goals for yourself?  Just thinking about them isn't enough.  Write them down, think about them, and make your plan so you can stick to them.

Thanksgiving Survival Guide

Thanksgiving is today and I want to help you navigate the day without 
gaining a gazillion pounds or back tracking on any progress you have made! 

Here are my TOP 5 Tips to Survive Turkey Day . 

1. Get out and Move! Don’t forget to get your workout in! I’ll be getting my workout in nice and early! ;) Or sign up for a Turkey Trot, or play a game of family football (as kids our family would put together Adults vs young adults soccer matches)… or whatever you’re into 

2. Don’t forget to EAT breakfast!!! Don’t think your doing yourself any favors by “saving” your calories for the big meal! By starving yourself you’re more likely to overeat! Just make sure you eat a healthy breakfast! 
3. If you’re indulging in some family favorites and traditions like we are (mmm...tamales...) then watch your portions!! Just take a small scoop and keep on  moving! 
4. If you’re in charge of cooking  make some healthy swaps. This will help save calories and will help you know that at least one dish served has been made a little healthier!

5. Drink your WATER!!! Don’t forget to drink it up!! This will help you feel full faster! 
When you’re FULL… STOP!!! Fight the urge to overeat!!! Don’ drink your calories! 
A cup of egg nog, a glass of punch, or if you drink a glass of wine/alcohol can add hundreds 
of calories and no benefits to helping you feel full …just empty calories! 

Load your plate with mostly white turkey meat and fresh veggies!!

Be SMART!! Stick with the obvious wiser choices. 

Dark Meat 4oz with Canned Jellied Sauce 
White Meat 4oz with 2 Tbsp Homemade Cranberry Sauce. 

Although dark meat is actually not too bad for you, sticking with white meat is just a good way to save some fat and calories. So the winner is White Meat! and stick with homemade cranberry sauce over super processed canned cranberries. 

Mashed Potatoes & Gravy Vs. Candied Sweet Potatoes

Generally Sweet Potatoes would win out in a match up such as this, but on Thanksgiving when they’re loaded up with sugar and marshmallows you’re better to stick with that good ol Mash and Gravy! 

Green Bean Casserole Vs. Stuffing

You might want to steer clear of both to be honest, 
but the least naughty of the two and the winner of this battle is Green Bean Casserole.
Corn Bread with Butter Vs. Dinner Roll with Butter

The extra kick of sugar in corn bread makes it the loser in this match up. 
The Winner… stick with the Dinner Roll and Butter 

Pumpkin Pie Vs. Pecan Pie
 Don’t be tricked by the “nuts are so healthy for you” craze that’s going down right now! Although Pecans are good for you the mass amounts of Corn Syrup make pecan pie a LOSER! Stick with Pumpkin Pie and you’ll fair much better if you’re going indulge in dessert! 

Above ALL just remember that if you do over indulge don’t beat yourself up!
 Get right back into it the next day… Don’t stretch it out into an extended stay of gluttony ;)

21 Day Fix Round 2 Final Results

I know I have been putting off this post off for what seems like forever.  
To be real honest I had rough 3rd week finsihing out the Fix with Halloween goodies in my house.  I buckled down the last couple of weeks and felt it was worth sharing not just my 21 Day Fix results but also share my progress thus far since I started my journey back in November 2013 

I took the middle photo 2 weeks ago. I have lost a total of 62lbs and God knows how many inches.  From a tight fitting size 18 to a size 8 now and shrinking.   It has been the hardest thing I have ever had to do.  I've had to make difficult decisions not just when it comes to food and exercise but also with the company I keep... I'm so blessed to have found supportive and loving friends along this journey, not just my Beahcbody Family.

Being so honest about my struggles has left the door open for strangers, friends and even family to try to knock me down, to my face, behind my back...doesn't matter how...but ultimately it's 
YOU that has to make the decision to keep going
 EVERY SINGLE DAY!!  and the sooner you realize this the better! 

I lost a total of 6lbs on this second round of the 21 Day Fix and finally broke my plateau.  
I've been bouncing around in the 160's for months...168, 165, 163, ugh so frustrating at times. 
Up and down, up and down.   I'm the type that has to follow her meal plan to a T to see and feel the progress.  One cheat can throw me off real quick.  The biggest reason I Love the fix so much is it allows for structure while also being flexible and sensible when it comes to 'treats'.  These are my results after my second round.  Which I have to admit, week 3 was not a good week with my food choices.  I started to feel a little over confident and slacked off a bit.  

My starting weight was 164lbs give or and I finished the 3rd week at 158lbs.  I lost about 2 inches in my waist .  Again not much of a difference in my arms and legs this time inches...But the amount of muscle I put on my legs and the definition is INCREDIBLE thus far!!
 I don't know whether to thank Autumn or Chalene because I have been doing PiYo 2-3 times a week because I also teach this format. 

All I know is my legs have NEVER looked this good and this CUT before.  I have NEVER been this FIT and I have NEVER been this COMMITTED to my goals.  Yes, I still have weight to loose, about 20lbs give or take and it's all in what seems like my mid section.  Do I dwell on it? Why the heck would I? I love the progress I am seeing and while yes i have loose skin, belly fat and stretch marks I also know that more consistent and the more I challenge myself both physically and mentally the better off I am...Abs or no Abs t I'm still in a much better place these days.
